Headteacher's Update: 12/12/25

We're 'Being Better Every Day' here at Oakwood!

The last two weeks in school have been exceptionally busy, and all our pupils continue to demonstrate our school vision of “being better every day” in all they do, alongside showing our school values: Knowledge, Equality, Determination, and Achievement.

👩‍🏫 Week Five Highlights

I had the pleasure of touring two Aurora Academies Trust trustees around our school. They were blown away by the hard work that all children were putting in and loved seeing our Year 2 class really engaged with their writing stimulus, based on the infamous book: Aliens Love Underpants!
The children were busy writing their own versions and were so keen to share their creative ideas with us.

🏫 Local Academy Board (LAB) Meeting

Last week, we held our second LAB meeting of the year to discuss the latest updates to our Pupil Premium Strategy. LAB members also toured the school to see how we’ve worked hard to repurpose the building this year, including:

  • ✅ Designated break-out spaces for phonics groups
  • ✅ A permanent sensory circuits room
  • ✅ A dedicated music room
  • ✅ Our wonderfully inclusive pastoral Hive spaces
  • ✅ Re-designed classroom spaces and displays around school

Do keep your eyes peeled for Anne’s (Chair of the LAB) Term 2 update, which will follow shortly!

🎄 Christmas Performances

This week, all classes have been busy practising for their upcoming Christmas performances, showcasing our Oakwood passion for music and drama!
Our children love to sing, and the festive sound ringing through our halls and corridors is truly magical. I can’t wait to share their endeavours with you next week and look forward to welcoming you to these events. Thank you for your support with our ticketing arrangements for these events; we are following revised health and safety protocols for visitors to school for these community events and truly appreciate your understanding.

Maths News

This week, many of our classes took part in the Trust-wide Times Tables Rockstars competition. Children competed against six other Trust schools by playing TTRS games and earning points for every correct answer!
We got off to an overwhelmingly positive start, and the margins between us and the other schools were closer than ever before.

I’m thrilled to announce that we achieved bronze medal status! 🥉
We narrowly missed out on first place by just under 100 answers, so we’ll be ready to compete even more fiercely in Term 3!

Rest those maths brains over the weekend, and I look forward to seeing many of you in person next week.

Warmest wishes,
Mrs Morgan
