Headteacher's Update: 06/02/26

Week 5 & we're alive with our wonderful curriculum and times-tables achievements!

Upper KS2: A Workshop‑Filled Week!

Upper Key Stage 2 have had an incredibly enriching week of workshops and hands‑on learning! Selected Year 5 pupils represented Oakwood brilliantly as we hosted our third AIM High Writing Workshop. Award‑winning author of More of Me and Beauty Sleep, Kathryn Evans, worked with our pupils and those from visiting schools to draft, publish and perform their very own literary pieces. Kathryn was full of praise, commenting on how creative, enthusiastic and imaginative our children were!

Year 5 and 6 also attended a laser‑eco‑car project session, exploring sustainable energy sources and racing their own prototypes along our hall track. On top of that, they took part in virtual Bikeability, using iPads to recognise road hazards in an interactive, hazard‑perception‑style experience. We hope they put their new skills to good use on their next cycling or road adventures! 🚲⚡️

🏆 Term 3 Trust‑Wide Times Table Rockstar Champions!

I am delighted to announce that Oakwood are the Term 3 TTRS Champions!
After a last‑minute defeat in Term 2, our pupils came back with determination and have achieved the highest average number of correct answers per pupil across all Aurora Academies Trust schools. On top of this, we are now 3rd place in the TTRS league table, against 30 other local primary schools - this is such an achievement and I could not be prouder of all the determination going into learning our times tables this year!

A huge congratulations to all the children who practised so passionately — your competitive spirit paid off!
Bring on Term 4… let’s keep the title! 🎸🔥

💐 Farewell to Mrs Hubbard

During this week’s assembly, we shared a warm and heartfelt farewell with the wonderful Mrs Hubbard, our School Business Manager, as she steps into retirement. Each class created and presented a special card to show their appreciation.

Her official final day is Wednesday, should you wish to say your personal goodbyes.
We wish her a joyful and restful retirement. 🌼💛

🌐 Internet Safety Day – Tuesday

Next Tuesday is National Internet Safety Day, and at Oakwood we will be focusing on the safe and sensible use of AI. Pupils will explore how these tools work, how to use them responsibly and how to stay safe online.

You can find more information about the national event here:

As always, we encourage all parents to regularly check devices at home and talk with children about healthy, safe online habits. 🛡️📱

📊 You Said, We Did: Mid‑Year Progress Cards

In our Summer parent survey, families asked for more regular in‑year updates about how their child is getting on. We listened!

This term, we will be issuing Mid‑Year Progress Cards, which include key academic information and attainment grades.
These will be handed out at Parents’ Evening or on the final day of term.

We hope this provides valuable insight and supports meaningful conversations about progress and next steps. 📘⭐
