    🌟 Learning in Full Swing

Another week has flown by at Oakwood! It has been a real pleasure visiting every classroom and seeing our topic learning in full swing. A particular highlight was joining Year 5 for some outdoor science, exploring soluble and insoluble materials and investigating mixing and separation, as well as seeing our year 4 class kick-start their writing unit - Bakery by the Sea - with some hands-on, practical baking. This week, I also had the opportunity to teach my favourite subject - maths - to both Year 6, where I thoroughly enjoyed tackling some challenging ‘working backwards’ maths problems together and year 4, where we sped through the counting stick and played competitive times tables games, in preparation for our Trust-wide TTRS competition launching early next week.

🎉 Free-Flow, Friends and Family Fridays

Following feedback from last year's parent and pupil surveys, we reviewed our lunchtimes so that KS1 and KS2 have separate lunch breaks from Monday to Thursday. However, we did not want children to lose opportunities to spend time with friends and family members across the school, so we introduced our new Free-Flow, Friends and Family Fridays, alongside the ever-popular Friday disco. Seeing children laughing, playing and dancing together on the playground has been wonderful. The joy, energy and sense of community on display each Friday is a lovely way to end the week.

    💉 Flu Vaccinations

Our School Nursing Team visited on Friday to deliver the annual nasal spray flu vaccinations. They commented on how courteous, sensible and mature our children were throughout the immunisation programme, and we were incredibly proud of the way they conducted themselves.

If your child missed their vaccination, don't worry. Please contact your GP surgery, who will be able to advise on arranging this.

🎤 Head Boy and Head Girl Interviews

This week, Mr Sharp and I had the pleasure of interviewing candidates for our prestigious Head Boy and Head Girl positions. Each pupil prepared and delivered a campaign speech explaining why they would make an excellent representative for Oakwood, doing so with confidence, enthusiasm and passion.

We were particularly impressed by their ability to speak from the heart, sharing what they love most about Oakwood and reflecting thoughtfully on the personal qualities they possess that align with our school values. The standard was exceptionally high, making our decision incredibly difficult. It has certainly not been an easy weekend deliberating, and we are looking forward to sharing the outcome with the children early next week!
