Acting Head of School Update
It has been a really enjoyable week at Oakwood!
The children are all up and running with their new curriculum units and a number of children have come up to me excitedly to tell me about their new history units. We have periods being studied currently that range from the Stone Age to World War II - and lots in between! I even witnessed the 'Great Fire of London' outside my office this week as the Year 2 children got underway with their unit!
It has been fantastic to see how enthusiastic the children have been to share how much they have been reading at home. Lots of eager children have been bringing in their special new 'Oakwood' reading records for their teacher to see. Please keep this going so we can create a two way dialogue about your child's reading between home and school.
Last week the children completed an art and poetry project to welcome them back to school and they produced some stunning work. The work is on display in the Key Stage 1 hall and you will be able to see it when you attend the Parents' evenings later in the term. Not only did the children produce beautiful work, they also leaned valuable lessons about protecting our planet and environment.
Our new lunchtime and collection arrangements continue to work well, and the children have continued their excellent behaviour in the dinner halls and on the playground.
Finally, I'm delighted to share that all our new staff have settled in brilliantly to the school and I am so pleased that they are with us at Oakwood, sharing our passion to do the very best for our children.
As ever, thank you very much for all the support you give to your children and to the school - it really is appreciated. I hope the sun stays out and that you all enjoy a lovely weekend.
With my best wishes.
