Headteacher Update - Friday 5th July 2024

Welcome to this week’s Weekly Update!

It’s Week 5 of this term. As we head closer towards the end of this school year, we also look at our preparations for the forthcoming academic year and supporting our children with this change. On Thursday, we held the first of our Transition activities for pupils in Years R to 5. They have now visited their new classroom, met their teacher and learned a few facts about their ‘class icon’. I was particularly impressed with how well pupils settled and their positive attitudes to being ‘one year older’. They will meet their new teacher again next week. Over the remaining weeks of this term, teachers will be meeting to talk about their classes. Please do speak to you child’s current class teacher if you have any questions or worries about your child’s transition to a new year group. The full class organisation structure can be found in the Bulletin.

Our pupils in Year 6 visited their new secondary schools this week, as part of their Year 7 Taster Days. They have come back to school having had some really positive experiences and the opportunity to make new friends with children from other schools. I am very proud of their attitude and maturity and their open-mindedness, too. Now back at school, school, they are busy preparing for their end of school assembly and PGL visit next week.  Lots to look forward to for our pupils in Year 6! Our ‘Summer Concert’ is taking place on Wednesday 17th July, in the afternoon. Parents are invited to join us, and is an opportunity for the school to showcase our Music curriculum and say ‘Goodbye’ to our pupils in Year 6. The last day of term is Friday 19th July, finishing at the normal time of 3.15pm.

In our Attendance Challenge, only 1 of the 10 classes achieved average or better attendance. We continue to promote excellent attendance at school, and we ask you to continue to support the school in promoting good attendance.  In our assembly today, we discussed the overnight General Election result and how this works. Do ask your child what they can recall. ‘Congratulations’ to all of our certificate winners this week. As always, the full list of this week’s ‘Stars of the Week’ can be found on p.4 of this Bulletin, as well as the winners of the ‘Golden Lunchbox’ and our ‘Lunchtime Awards’.

‘Thank you’ to all of you who completed this term’s school parent survey. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and views. I hope you have a great weekend!
