  • Head of School Update - Friday 25th June 2021

    Fri 25 Jun 2021

Welcome to this week's 'Weekly Update'!

Our children in Stephenson Class has a fantastic day at the Eastbourne Miniature Railway on Wednesday, and certainly had the best of this week's weather. Their learning journey for this term is, 'Are We There Yet?', and the visit helped to develop their knowledge of journeys and train travel. The children really enjoyed looking at the different types of engines, visiting the maze and nature-trail, and, of course, spending some time at the play-park. The day was finished off with a fantastic ride on one of the trains - the children loved it! Their behaviour was impeccable throughout the day - a real credit to the school. Thank you to all the staff for organising the day. We've shared some photographs on Facebook - please take a look.

This week's theme in Nurture has been, 'I Can Do It!', promoting confidence and self-esteem. We have all been working hard with Lego challenges, memory games, Dino World and water fun. The children loved our story at snack time - 'The Cow Who Climbed A Tree'.

Last term, we announced our first two Word Millionaires; Henry M. and Nicole W. were the first children this year to have read more than 1,000,000 words, across all of their books. In assembly today, I was delighted to add three more children to the Word Millionaire list. Congratulations to Julia W. and Max S. in Year 6 and Bailey H. in Year 4. All three children will have a framed certificate in the library.

  • Head of School Update - Friday 18th June 2021

    Fri 18 Jun 2021

Welcome to this week's 'Weekly Update'.

I hope you were able to see some of the photographs we shared this week. Our library is looking fantastic and the children are really enjoying the space, choosing a book and sitting to read.

Our pupils who attend our Nurture classes have really been enjoying themselves this week. In Mrs Snelgrove's group, the children have been talking about and acting out different emotions and reading stories about feeling sad and what we can do to make things better. They have also been learning some mindfulness strategies, to help them regulate, focus and transition back to class. We've shared some photographs at the foot of this update!

Pupils in Year 4 have been learning the text 'Kidnapped', as part of their writing unit. To help internalise the text, pupils learn a set of actions as a cue for the vocabulary in the text. This helps them to have a secure understanding of the text and its structure, when they come to write a version for themselves.

Well done to all of our certificate winners this week. Our 'Stars of the Week' are:

YRS - Gianpiero P-F for Determination

    Y1C - Vinnie H-W for Achievement

    Y1H - Teddy C. for Determination

    Y2B - Angie B. for Achievement

    Y2F - Adam P. for Equality

    Y3A - Evelyn S-S. for Determination

    Y5K - Kyle T. for Determination

    Y5P - Marlee S. for Equality

    Y6A - Kyra B. for Determination

    Y6P - Daniel N. for Achievement

Well done to our Mathematicians and Writers, too!

Our children in Reception are really looking forward to their trip to the Eastbourne Miniature Railway next Wednesday. Lots of things have been planned, so fingers crossed that the weather will be dry. I will look forward to sharing some photographs of their visit.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

  • Head of School Update - Friday 11th June 2021

    Fri 11 Jun 2021

Welcome to this week's Weekly Update! It has been lovely to welcome all of the pupils back to school and to a new term! The children have settled well and staff have enjoyed welcoming them back to school, and sharing new learning journeys. I've already seen some excellent home-learning projects from across this term and am looking forward to seeing more of these across the next few weeks.

With the drier weather, we've been able to use the field at lunchtime and the children have really enjoyed having all of the extra space in which to play games and spend time with their friends and teachers - let's hope the weather continues in to next week.

Although children haven't been at school, all of the staff have and we've had a fantastic INSET Day in school today. It always feels strange, opening the school without any pupils, but all of the staff have been working hard and developing their own training across many sessions, throughout the day. Teaching staff have enjoyed some sessions on developing writing lessons in the classroom and helping to support early readers with their phonics, so that all lessons are the best they can be and our support staff have taken part in ADHD training and online SEND training.

Nevada Smith, the Trust's Lead for Behaviour, Well-being and Mental Health led training for all of the staff on 'Mental Health First Aid'. The aim of the training course was to help staff gain a secure understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world. Staff also learned strategies to recognise the warning signs of mental ill health, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone, whilst keeping themselves safe. This has never been more important. Thank you to Nevada for the training!

I'm delighted to share some photographs of our brand-new library! It looks fantastic and the children have really enjoyed the new space - they particularly like the Oakwood Tree, the focal point of the library. We have added some brand new books to the library and we'll continue to do so. The children have been sharing their favourite recommendations and we've been buying these books as we go!

Finally, 'Well done' to all of our weekly award winners. This week's 'Stars of the Week' are:
