Headteacher Update: 07/11/25

🌟 Headteacher’s Weekly Update – Term 2 Begins!

Dear Oakwood Families,

Welcome back to Term 2!
We’re diving into an exciting half-term full of Oakwood opportunities! From rich learning experiences to cherished traditions like our 🎄 Reindeer Walk, there’s so much to look forward to. We hope you’ll be able to join us for key events, including our Christmas Fair later this month.

🗓️ Key Dates
Please check the weekly bulletin and school calendar on our website to stay up to date. Don’t forget to pop those dates in your diaries!

🤝 Working Together
We value strong partnerships with our families. Please continue to liaise with your child’s class teacher at drop-off or pick-up for quick messages. For longer conversations, we’re happy to arrange a meeting or phone call via the school office.
📧 Kindly allow up to 2 working days for responses to communications.

📣 Keeping You Informed
We’ve refined our communication approach to include:

  • Weekly bulletin
  • Termly newsletter
  • Year group newsletters
  • Inclusion newsletter
  • Facebook & website updates

If you ever feel something’s missing, we welcome your feedback; it's important to us that our parents and children have all the right information at the right time!

🧦 Anti-Bullying Week 2025 – Starts Monday!
This year’s theme is “Make a Noise About Bullying” – encouraging everyone to speak up and stand together.

We’re kicking off with Odd Socks Day on Monday! Pupils, staff, and parents are invited to wear odd socks to celebrate individuality and show that it’s okay to be different.

👥 Parent Workshop – Tuesday Afternoon
Mr Sharp and I will be hosting a session to share our Anti-Bullying Policy and how it works in practice. We’d love your input to help strengthen our approach.

🎥 Children will also take part in a national live lesson and other exciting activities throughout the week!

🏫 School Council & OPAL Update
Our School Council is holding its first meeting of the year next week! One big agenda item: OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning). We’re keen to hear pupils’ ideas on improving lunchtime play.

🙏 A huge thank you to parents who completed the OPAL survey! Your feedback is invaluable. If you expressed interest in joining our OPAL working party, please do speak to me directly to get involved or let the school office know it's you – we’d love to get you involved ASAP!

📚 Trust-Wide Development Day – Friday
Next Friday is a staff training day across Aurora Academies Trust. Our team will be heading to City Academy Whitehawk for a day of professional development with colleagues from our network of seven schools. We are so fortunate to benefit from shared expertise and to invest in our whole-staff body's development too!

🎅 Festive Fun Coming Soon!
Keep your eyes peeled for more seasonal updates – it’s going to be a magical term!

Warmest wishes,
