It has been another incredibly busy and successful week at Oakwood, and I am immensely proud of the effort, enthusiasm and teamwork shown by our pupils and staff.
This week, our Year 1 children have approached the Phonics Screening Check with fantastic determination, and we are so grateful to Miss Clark for her careful organisation and support throughout. A particular highlight has been our much-loved 'Breakfast with Fred' (our phonics frog)! Our year 1 classes enjoyed pastries and fruit to start each day in a calm, positive way and this certainly fuelled their brains for their phonics too! We will certainly miss these special mornings this coming week and want you to know just how immensely proud we are of all your hard work!
In Year 4, pupils have shown real resilience and focus during the Multiplication Tables Check, with Mrs Vitelli doing a wonderful job of motivating and encouraging every child to achieve their very best. Early indications suggest this could be our school's strongest set of MTC results yet, which is a real testament to our pupils’ hard work and our staff commitment to times tables teaching too! Again, we are feeling hugely proud of all your hard work!
Our Year 6 pupils have had an unforgettable week. Those who attended the residential experienced an incredible range of activities including: axe throwing, high ropes courses, rock climbing, forest adventures (very muddy but lots of fun!), and valuable team-building challenges. Alongside this, they embraced the life experience of shared dormitories and created lasting memories together. Not a single opportunity or moment was dampened by the weather and the children and staff truly embraced every activity with Oakwood spirit!
Back at base, our Year 6 pupils also enjoyed our home-grown activity week, including lots of cooking, a 'wheely' good disco outdoors, helping our younger children, and some extremely competitive (and enjoyable!) team-building through bench ball. Their trip to Knockhatch Adventure Park was another highlight, with giant pillow jumping, target practice and time exploring the animals.
As we head into week three, we're excited to be launching developments in Nursery this week, moving towards a free-flow model in our main nursery room, as well as key curriculum developments, including nature school too! These changes will further strengthen our provision for our youngest learners - please do take a look at our Term 6 Nursery Newsletter for full details.
Please know that we're in full swing, planning our transition activities and classes for next year. We know that this is always an exciting time for our children, families and staff. We're working hard to prepare all the key information to share with you soon. We're also finalising our summer parental engagement event details, which we'll be sharing with you in the coming weeks!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support: together we are truly embracing all of our Oakwood opportunities.
Warmest wishes,
Mrs Morgan
