Our first few weeks back in school!
The first few weeks back after the Summer holidays have been filled with energy, learning and creativity here at Oakwood.
We have simply loved welcoming our pupils back to school, as well as welcoming our new nursery and reception starters too.
Unlike other local schools, we invited our new reception children to all start school full-time with us and we are thrilled to share just how confident and curious they've all been, truly settling into life at Oakwood so quickly! Their smiles, happy faces and the learning environment we are so proud of was magically captured earlier this week, during our videographer visit, which we can't wait to share clips of soon!
Across all our Key Stage 1 and 2 classes, we’ve launched our new behaviour curriculum. We are invested in teaching behaviour just like we teach reading, writing and maths. As part of this, classes have been busy creating beautiful canvas displays about their termly behaviour book, which we're looking forward to showcasing in our infant hall.
As you know, our OPAL project is transforming lunchtimes. This week alone, children have been climbing our new 'jump stump', rolling donated tyres, and dancing to tunes. It’s a joy to see! Do remember, we’re looking for a budding parent volunteer to join our OPAL working party – if you're interested in finding out more about this role and how it will benefit your child and our school, please let me or the school office know.
To support curriculum time and teacher release, we’ve moved back to a 45-minute lunch break. We know that this is taking a little getting used to, but we are listening to feedback and are working hard to refine this new routine.
I wondered if you'd noticed that our bulletins also look a little different this year? At school level, we’re having a huge focus on our communications – working out the best ways to keep parents informed and connected with what's going on in school. You’ll notice new formats and more regular updates. As part of these, we'd love to be able to include photos of your child(ren). To help us do so, we're encouraging parents to check and update your child's photo/bulletin permissions via the Arbor App.
In the coming weeks, I'll be sharing more information around communications and school events to look forward to this term. I'm excited for all that Term 1 is set to bring and look forward to continuing my partnership with the Oakwood community.
Warmest wishes,
Hannah Morgan
