Last update before we head into December!
I want to start by saying a heartfelt thank you to our whole-school community for the unprecedented support following last week’s emergency incident. As shared with our parent body, I could not be prouder of how our children and staff responded. This week, they have been equally brilliant in settling back into routines and embracing their learning!
We kicked off the week with a whole-school maths competition—and as the children know, I love maths! In assembly, I had the privilege of teaching them a game called ‘Dotty 6’, and then visited classes to see the competitions in full swing.
Class winners battled it out in a thrilling final, showing superb strategy and quick-thinking. Congratulations to Ivan (Year 4), now crowned our whole-school Dotty 6 champion! 🏆 He proudly lifted the trophy—just like the FA Cup!
To celebrate UK Parliament Week, we welcomed Josh Babarinde (our local MP)—a special visitor for Oakwood as Josh has strong roots in our community.
The children loved hearing about his journey to becoming an MP and learning fascinating facts about the Houses of Parliament. Our School Councillors even enjoyed a smaller Q&A session, asking brilliant questions—future MPs in the making!
Our Key Stage 2 pupils represented Oakwood at the Eastbourne Indoor Athletics Championships, competing in sprints, long jump, speed bounce, and throwing events.
They demonstrated not only natural talent but also an outstanding team spirit and competitive attitude—Miss Stew was truly impressed! 👏
As we move into December, our Christmas spirit is in full swing! Rehearsals for our upcoming performances are well underway, and we can’t wait to share key event details with you soon. We look forward to celebrating with you in the coming weeks!
Warmest wishes,
Hannah Morgan
