  • Headteacher's Update: 16/01/2026

Full-steam ahead into week 2 of our Spring term!

    ๐ŸŒŸ Curriculum Highlights ๐ŸŒŸ

Despite the wet and grey weather this week, we’ve had an enriching Week 2 here at Oakwood, filled with exciting learning across the curriculum. Earlier in the week, Mr Sharp and I had the pleasure of visiting classrooms, and it was wonderful to see so much learning in action. We had the privilege of:

    • ๐Ÿ“š Hearing a magical story time all about a witch in our Gruffalo Room in Nursery
    • ๐Ÿš€ Watching Explore Time in Reception, where children were learning about rockets, space travel and planet Earth
    • ๐ŸŽจ Seeing creativity flow in Year 1, with children exploring colour wheels in art
    • โœ๏ธ Hearing Year 2 children support one another to edit and improve their writing
    • ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Not wanting to disturb the tranquillity of Years 3 & 4 publishing their 'border' writes in English
    • ๐Ÿ Witnessing awe and wonder in Year 5 as they learnt about vertebrates and explored a recently shed snake skin (a huge thank you to Tammy, our MDSA!)
    • โญ Hearing fantastic Sci-Fi writing ideas developing in Year 6
    • ๐ŸŽต Seeing all classes master movement to music with Miss Stew—especially perfecting the art of marching!

It has been fantastic to see our curriculum coming to life in so many areas across the school. ๐ŸŒˆ

    ๐Ÿงญ Behaviour Curriculum

This is our first year delivering our new Behaviour Curriculum, and children are thoroughly enjoying discovering each theme through a new year-group story this half-term.

Each class continues to identify a weekly area for collective responsibility—whether it’s desk organisation, cloakroom tidiness or demonstrating our culture of kindness.

This approach gives us valuable opportunities to proactively and reactively support behaviour, friendships and wider life skills. ๐Ÿ’›

    ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ OPAL Lunchtimes

We continue to develop our OPAL lunchtime provision to ensure children enjoy a wide range of activities, spaces and opportunities each day.

We’ve also launched a new Friday Lunchtime Assembly, where we teach games, skills and responsible use of equipment. This week’s football assembly was a huge hit across KS1 and KS2! โšฝ

With the weather turning wetter, we’re reminded how important fresh air is to children’s wellbeing. And as the saying goes… “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!”

To maximise use of our fantastic outdoor spaces—even when they’re muddy—we’re encouraging all children to bring:

    • ๐Ÿ‘ข A spare pair of shoes/wellies (in a named plastic bag)
    • ๐Ÿงค Optional: waterproof trousers or bodysuits (children must be able to put them on quickly)

Thank you for helping us make outdoor play accessible in all seasons! ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐ŸŒฟ

    ๐Ÿ‘ฅ Parents’ Evenings

We’re looking forward to welcoming you to our Parents’ Evenings on:

    ๐Ÿ“… Wednesday 11th February

Bookings will open on Monday 19th January, so please make sure to book early to secure a time with your child’s class teacher and hear about their progress at the mid-year point.

    Mrs Morgan
