  • Headteacher's Update: 26/06/26

Well done to everyone for your resilience this week in the hot weather and very warm conditions this has brought.

Our pupils and staff have done brilliantly to stay positive, keep hydrated and continue with their learning this week amidst rising temperatures. Our year 4 cohort swim across term 6 and they were exceptionally thankful for the opportunity to cool off in the pool this week! Thank you everyone who followed our school rules to stay prepared for the heat-wave and keep safe; keeping safe is one of our Oakwood rules and we know everyone did so well with this, this week!

Today’s INSET day has enabled teachers to prepare carefully for transitions to new classes. This is an important and exciting time of the year, and we are looking forward to sharing information about classes with our families very soon. Following our announcements around classes, children will meet their new teacher on Tuesday next week, with a ‘meet and greet’ and story time at the end of the afternoon. This will then be followed by a transition morning on Wednesday, where children will spend time in their new classrooms. There are no changes to normal drop-off and collection arrangements before or after these events, so please arrive and collect as usual. We know how much children look forward to finding out their new classes and teachers, and we are excited to share this with you all shortly.

At Oakwood, we continue to be really proud of the music offer our pupils receive, delivered in partnership with Sussex Music School. We are very much looking forward to inviting parents to attend our Key Stage Summer concerts. In light of the recent hot weather, these will be organised by key stage (Reception and KS1 together on one date, with KS2 on another). This will allow us to use a hall contingency plan if needed and will also help us to keep performances shorter and more comfortable for everyone. Our official invitations will be sent next week so that you can save the date.

Wishing all of our families a slightly cooler and restful weekend.
