Welcome to Oakwood Primary Academy

Thank you on behalf of all of us here at Oakwood Primary Academy for visiting our website. It is our hope that this website will provide you with the most up-to-date and useful information about our school and share insight into the fantastic teaching and learning taking place here. As you will see, we are very proud of what our school community achieves and hope that this shines through, but if you do have any unanswered questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Oakwood Primary Academy is a thriving primary school, situated in the heart of Willingdon Trees. We provide a nurturing and inspiring education for just over 300 pupils currently on roll, ranging from our onsite Nursery and Early Years Foundation Stage Village through to our oldest children in Year 6. As one of the seven schools across the Aurora Academies Trust (spanning East Sussex, Brighton and Surrey), we benefit from our multi-academy trust network of innovation and support, but what continues to make our school special, is our school vision & values and its community feel.

We believe passionately that every pupil can achieve their full potential. We ensure this happens by promoting our school's four core values: ‘Knowledge, Equality, Determination and Achievement’. We consider these to be integral to our pupils’ success and well-being. These values also help us to instil a love of learning, for both academic and personal growth.
Our school community all strive towards our ethos of 'Being Better Every Day' and we use of values to help us achieve this goal.

Our links with parents, carers and wider family are very important to us. The school is at the heart of the community and we know that educating children is a joint responsibility. This is why we value the support of all our families, ensuring that our curriculum is not only exciting and engaging for children but also provides many opportunities for families to meaningfully engage in and share in our learning successes that go on every day at Oakwood.

We proudly offer a broad, engaging, knowledge-rich curriculum that meets the needs of all of our pupils, developing them as holistic learners. Reading, writing and maths are important curriculum focuses for us, and we have dedicated time across our mornings to these lessons. However, we also provide rich and creative wider curriculum experiences and sessions in the afternoons, which motivate our pupils to be scientists, historians, geographers, artists, philosophers and athletes. We strive to build on each child's strengths and interests to prepare them well for their next steps in life.

At Oakwood, our spacious school site supports us in delivering high quality teaching and learning experiences, be this within our inclusive, welcoming classrooms; delightful library, at the heart of the school; or in our ample outdoor space, which features a large playing field, multi-purpose play areas and gardens for forest school and outdoor activities. We are also fortunate to be located in close proximity to our stunning coastline and other key local landmarks, which we visit regularly as part of our enriching curriculum offer.

I couldn't be prouder to be leading the staff team and children here at Oakwood Primary Academy. I know that through their continued commitment and love of learning, we - as a school - continue to 'be better every day'.

Our door is always open and we welcome visitors or prospective parents/ carers to look around the school at anytime.

If you would like to find out more or would like to arrange a visit, please contact our school office on 01323 501 251.
