Acting Head of School Update

We have had a super week at Oakwood with some terrific learning taking place across the school. In classes, the children have been having a real focus on showing 'good listening', good sitting' and 'good looking' and it has really shown when I have gone into classrooms. The children are showing great engagement in their lessons which can only mean better learning. Well done everyone - and keep it up!

I have had the pleasure of seeing some fantastic individual work during the course of the week , including more great homework projects. Yesterday morning several Year 2 children came and shared their fantastic writing they had done to put all their phonics learning into practice. I have also been delighted to see so many children bringing their reading journals in on a regular basis. The partnership between home and school is so important in every way - but especially regarding reading so thank you for all your support.

It has been great to see a number of our children participating in after school clubs - and especially to see the football club for Upper Juniors up and running with Mr Spiers and Mr Mitchell. I know that early sessions have proved very popular.

As you will see on the bulletin, we do have a some key dates coming up - not least the Parents consultation evenings in the last week of term. Appointments are now available to book in the usual way. As I mentioned last week, we also have a couple of events coming up that are linked to our celebration of 'Black History Month. On the 15th October there is a free parents webinar to explore issues related to racism (through the Arise charity), and on the same day our Key Stage 2 children will be participating in a 'Live' Black History Month assembly with schools across the country , which should be very exciting and valuable to be a part of.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and I look forward to seeing all the children for our new tradition of a Monday celebration assembly!

With my best wishes

Mr Sharp
