Acting Head of School Update

We have had a great week here at Oakwood. I have been into all classes over the week and continued to see really positive behaviour and engagement from the children across the school.

There has been a great variety of learning going on across the school as usual, but seeing Year 4 children preparing tomatoes for mummification, using processes from Ancient Egypt was a particular highlight! Year 6 were performing complex multiplication problems when I was in their classrooms and showing great resilience at overcoming any difficulties.

A number of children have brought work to show me this week - and I especially loved seeing the boats that children had planned, made and tested as part of their science units in Year 2. More great homework projects have also been shown to me during the week as well.

Next week you will receive your next curriculum newsletter and knowledge organiser - so if you want to make a head start in the homework projects for next term , you can!

It has been great to see a really positive response to our Upper Junior choir - with a record number of Year 5 children getting involved. They sounded fabulous in practice this week when I dropped in!

Our KS2 children took part in a fantastic 'live' assembly on Tuesday, joining (virtually) many other school children from across the country in celebration of Black History Month. Valuable discussions were held and a number of inspirational figures studied. It was a valuable experience for all involved and links to our school value of equality.

I look forward to seeing many of you in school for parent consultations next week - and work from the children will be on display in the KS2 hall (Years 2-6) and in the Foundation Village (Reception and Year 1).

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend
