Acting Head of School Update

Welcome to the first weekly update of the new school year!

It has been wonderful to welcome all of our fabulous children back to school this week! They have been full of enthusiasm about what they have been up to in the summer, as well as being delighted to be back at school.

It has been a very positive first week back, the children have been engaged in some fantastic learning and their behaviour across the school has been outstanding. I am really proud of how well they have settled back into the daily school routine.

We have been engaged in an art and writing project this week. it is based on a wonderful poem called 'Dreamer' by Brian Moses. Of course Brian knows our school well, and we have been delighted to welcome him into school in the last two years. The children have been giving lots of thought to environmental issues and how we can help our planet. I look forward to seeing the results of their efforts, which we plan to put on display in the Key Stage 1 hall.

The children are underway with their new curriculum units. You will have received a curriculum newsletter today along with a knowledge organiser for your child's history unit.

We have adjusted timings and arrangements slightly for lunchtimes and they have got off to a very successful start, with children again demonstrating their excellent behaviour on the playground and earning lots of pom poms for the `Happy Lunchtime' award along the way!

We have also been welcoming new pupils to our Nursery and Reception and we are so pleased to have all our new pupils with us.

Finally, we also welcome a number of new staff to Oakwood. Miss Hall joins our Reception team, Miss Jeffery joins us in year 3 and Mr Bardot joins us in Year 6. In addition Mr Bell will be working across the school as a cover teacher. Miss Fitzgerald and Mrs Cuccuru both join us permanently as teaching assistants.  All have already brought great enthusiasm and passion to the school and we are very excited about having them as part of our team at Oakwood.

Thank you all for your support during the first week back and I look forward to a great first term. I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

With my best wishes

Mr Sharp
