Deputy Headteacher Update - Friday 25th November 2022

Welcome to this week’s update.

Children from Years 1 to 6 had an exciting opportunity on Monday. M&M Productions came into school and performed the pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk. The children enjoyed this amazing experience: there was lots of laughing, applause and cheering. This was something that I am sure, many of our children will remember for years to come.

This week, Year 2 have been learning about the properties of shapes including vertices and sides. Children in Year 5 have been focused on writing some fantastic ‘Warning Stories’ using a variety of different writing skills. I have been impressed with how well the children can explain their stories to make the reader become hooked and make them want to read on.

In Year 6 this week, pupils have been investigating the features on Google Slides to create their own presentations. They will be using these skills to create their own Online Safety presentations, which they can then share with our younger children in school.

All our children from Nursery to Year 6 have begun to prepare and rehearse for their Christmas Shows and Carol Concerts and the singing so far has been amazing! This could be the best singing I have heard at Oakwood yet! We really hope that you will be able to join us in this experience later in the term.

Well done to Matilda, Sophie and Macy from Year 6 who took part in a gymnastic competition in Uckfield last weekend. The all did themselves proud and today Matilda shared her trophy for 3rd place with the rest of the school during our celebration assembly.  Do we have future Olympic stars in the making?

Next week, Jessica Fleischer, an English Kickboxing Champion, will be joining us on Tuesday 29th November as part of Sports for Schools. Children have already taken home sponsorship forms and during the day, they (alongside ALL the adults) will be completing four different challenges: Spotty Dogs, Leg Drives, Push-ups and Star Jumps. Children in KS1 and KS2 can come into school in their P.E. kits that day.

On Thursday 1st December, the Oakwood Christmas Post will commence. The post box will be located in the school office and our Year 6 Ambassadors will help to sort and deliver any cards or letters back to the classes. Thank you to Mr Trigwell who has made a brilliant new post box for the school.

We hope that you are all enjoying the football - whomever you are following. Many classes have been discussing the World Cup and the determination that some of the players have shown to get a result for their nation!

Please see this week's Bulletin, with further information and key dates.

Have a great weekend (and come on England tonight!)

Mr Paramor
