Head of School Update - Friday 28th May 2021

Welcome to this week's weekly update, and the last of Term 5!

Thank you to all of our parents and carers who have joined us for Parents' Evening this week. It was really lovely to be able to welcome so many of you in to school, and I enjoyed talking with parents at the door. I really hope you have found it worthwhile to have the opportunity for face-to-face meetings. It's taken a great deal of effort and organisation but I do hope you have found it helpful and welcomed the chance to talk about your child's progress, and look through their books, with your child's class teacher.

Pupils in Year 6 have finished some fantastic publishing of their writing this week. The pupils were asked to design a modern, state-of-the-art vehicle and complete an explanation leaflet, describing the key features of their scooters and hover-bikes. The quality of the writing was excellent!

We celebrated our 'Star of the Week' and 'Star of the Term' awards this week.

Well done to all of our certificate winners this week!

Congratulations to Nicole W. in Year 5 and Henry M. in Year 6 who have become our first Word Millionaires of this year. They have read 1,000,000 words each, across the year. The pupils accumulate the words at the end of each book they read, when they take a quiz to check their understanding. When the quiz is passed, all of the words in the book are added to their individual accounts. Let's hope we will discover some more Word Millionaires before the end of the year!

I's like to take this opportunity to wish the whole Oakwood community - our pupils, their families and all our staff - a safe and enjoyable half-term break and I look forward to welcoming you all back to school for Term 6 on Monday 7th June.

Best wishes,

Mr Laker
