Headteacher Update - Friday 17th June 2022

Welcome to this week's Weekly Update!

It's been Arts Week at Oakwood this week and we have had fun with music and sculpture, drawing and painting. This year's theme is 'The Power of Nature' and our projects in school have been based around this theme. The Sussex Music School teachers have ran musical workshops in school, creating soundtracks for our artwork. On Thursday morning we held our 'Classroom Galleries', where we visited each others' classes to talk about and share our final nature pieces. We've really enjoyed the week! Thank you to Miss Elms who has organised this year's project. Enjoy looking at our photos!

In assembly today, we awarded our latest 'Stars of the Week'. This week's winners are Bonnie in Reception; Isla in Year 1; Adam and Ivy-May in Year 2; Jett and Asia in Year 3; Bethany and Tililah in Year 4; Lucie-May and Heidi in Year 5; and Willow and Danny in Year 6.

Well done to this week's winners.

We also enrolled our latest Word Millionaires. Numbers 12 and 13 are Blake D. in Year 4 and Louis H. in Year 5, who have both read an incredible 1,000,000 words this school year. Their certificates will have pride of place in our 'Hall of Fame' in the school library.

YR Stephenson Class and Y4 Thunberg lead the way in the Term 6 Attendance Challenge with 10 points each.

Our Year 6 pupils are looking forward to their residential visit to PGL Marchant's Hill, from Wednesday and Friday next week. There are some fantastic activities planned and I am sure they will have an amazing time. We'll update you with how they are getting on. On Tuesday, Year 4 are heading to Michelham Priory - this is sure to be a great school trip!

We are looking forward to our Aspirations Week, from Monday 27th June. This is a chance for all of our pupils to find out about the incredible work that people in our community do. If you would like to come in to school to talk about your career, job, profession to our pupils, we would love to hear from you. Please contact the School Office.

Just a reminder that Friday 17th June is an INSET day and the school is closed to pupils. I will look forward to seeing all of the pupils when we return to school on Monday 20th June.

Have a great weekend!
