Headteacher Update - Friday 17th March 2023

Welcome to this week's Weekly Update!

We've been enjoying Fairtrade Week at Oakwood. On Tuesday, Mr Sharp took the School Council to Morrison's in Hampden Park. There they met Kim, who showed them around the store and their Fairtrade ranges in store, including chocolate, coffee and bananas, to name a few. In school today, we welcomed Kim, who joined us to lead some Fairtrade workshops and activities. The children have really enjoyed learning about the products that we buy and consume, where in the World they come from, and how Fairtrade ensures workers and farmers are paid and treated fairly for their goods.

We will be having a Fairtrade display in school. Come and see it when you join us for our Curriculum Events.

In our Celebration Assembly, we announced the winner of our Short Story celebration. Congratulations to Oliver J. in Year 5, the author of 'Ben's Weird Dream'. All of our entrants this year won a prize - some brilliant stories!

'Congratulations' to Lilly-May B. in Year 5, who has become our latest 'Word Millionaire' - an incredible achievement. Lilly-May has read more than 70 books since September and is an avid reader. Her 1,000,000 words have helped our school total to more than 19 million words!

'Well done' to all of this week's certificate winners. Our full list of this week's Stars can be found on the Bulletin for this week.

Just a reminder to you all that our Progress Meetings for the Spring term will be taking place on Tuesday and Thursday next week. This is a great opportunity for you to meet with you child's class teacher and to discuss the progress that your child is making in school. Consultations can be made via your Arbor Parent Portal. There are later evening appointments on Thursday, allowing you to choose a time that best suits you. The meetings for pupils in Year 4 will take place after the Easter break.

I look forward to welcoming you in to school.

'Thank you' for your support during the period of industrial action, this week and before. I recognise the impact that this has had on our families, and understand this frustration. Your support is very much appreciated. I hope that a resolution can be agreed soon.

Have a good weekend!
