Headteacher Update - Friday 1st July 2022

Welcome to this week's Weekly Update!

It has been 'Aspirations Week' at Oakwood this week. It's an opportunity for our pupils to meet the people in our community and for the chance to be inspired about the work that these brilliant people do. We are extremely grateful to all of our visitors who took time out of their busy schedules to come and visit us, all of whom have gone above and beyond to provide some incredible experiences to our pupils. We've learned a huge amount about the fantastic things that happen in our community.

Today, we welcomed Councilor Josh Babarinde to school. He spoke to all of the children about his life, his project work in the community, his role as a local councilor and the awarding of his OBE from the Queen. It was a privilege to see Josh's medal and to ask questions about the barriers and hurdles he has overcome. The children were really inspired and took time to talk to Josh at the end of the assembly.

On Monday, our pupils in Year 5 had a fantastic day out at Cuckmere Haven, learning about the incredible Geography of the local landscape. Yesterday, pupils in Reception enjoyed a day at the Eastbourne Miniature Railway. Two brilliant school trips to support our learning in class.

Well done to all of our certificate winners. This week's 'Star of the Week' winners are:

Emily in Reception; David in Year 1; Tegan and Sofia in Year 2; Ayman and Bradley in Year 3; Holly and Ryan M. in Year 4; Freddie-Joe and Leo in Year 5; Willow and Sabrina in Year 6.

Stephenson and Thunberg Classes are leading this term's Attendance Challenge. Will this still be the case next week?

Next week, we will share our class structure for the next academic year. We are busy in school getting ready for transition and planning the opportunities that will help all of our children across these last few weeks of term.

I hope you will be able to join us for Sports Day on Tuesday 12th July. Parents are welcome to attend. This is always a main event in the school calendar and we look forward to seeing as many of you as we can.

Please check this week's School Bulletin, with key dates and information about upcoming and recent events. We have also shared some photographs on our Facebook page.

Wishing you all a fantastic weekend!
