Headteacher's Update - Friday 15th July 2022

Welcome to this week's Weekly Update!

It's a busy run-in towards the end of term, with our fantastic end of year events and performances - Sports Day, Transition Morning and 'Oakwood's Got Talent', just to name a few things this week...

Thank you to all of you who joined us for Sports Day on Tuesday. Typically, it either rains or it's hot and we had some very warm weather on the day! I was incredibly proud of all the pupils - they enjoyed their events, were determined, gave their best effort and supported each other, too. It was lovely to see. Having our families there also helped inspire the children, and it meant a lot to us all that you were able to attend for the first time in three years.

On Monday, our talented musicians performed in a very special assembly. Harvey, Brenin, Jessie and Chelsea performed to the whole school, to demonstrate what they have learned this year and to practice the skill of performing to an audience. We were very impressed with them all. Thank you to Paul from the Sussex Music School who helped support the children. If your child is interested in learning to play an instrument, a link can be found on our Facebook page.

Our pupils in Year 6 enjoyed their day out at Knockhatch today - their last as a pupil at Oakwood. We will share some photographs of the day, next week.

Well done to all of our certificate winners this week. Our Stars of the week are:

Freddie in Reception

Ronnie in Year 1

Aya and Matilda in Year 2

Leighton and Freddie in Year 3

Blake and Sammy-Jo in Year 4

Mason and Leah in Year 5

We'll announce our Year 6 winners next week!

Congratulations to Bethany V. in Year 4 who has become the latest Word Millionaire - an incredible 1,000,000 words read this school year!

Earlier today, we sent a letter regarding the weather warning expected for next week. The South Coast towns are forecasted to experience temperatures in excess of 30 degrees on Monday and Tuesday, so this has led us to changing the date of our Summer Concert. This will now take place on Wednesday 20th July, once the weather warning ends. I hope you understand the reasons for making this decision.

On Monday and Tuesday, pupils are welcome to wear their PE kit to school, should you wish for them to do so. We understand that in the warmer temperatures this may be more comfortable than the school uniform.

All pupils should come to school with a water bottle, sun-hat and sun-cream.

Unbelievable, we have just 4 days left of this school year. I'm really proud of our pupils - still giving their best every day!

Have a great weekend!
