Oakwood Primary Academy - Ofsted Inspection Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you will be aware, Ofsted inspected Oakwood Primary Academy on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th October 2022. I am delighted to share the outcome of this inspection and to inform you that the school has been judged to be ‘Good’ in all areas, with an overall judgement of ‘Good’. This is an incredible outcome for the school and is testament to all of our fantastic pupils and the hard work of the whole staff team.

During the inspection, the inspectors made reference to the brilliant attitudes of pupils. In the report, the lead inspector, HMI Shazia Akram, said, ‘Pupils are kind, compassionate and considerate to everyone. They are eager to play a part in making their friendly school a welcoming place’. During visits to lessons, the inspection teams saw pupils enjoying learning and classrooms ‘abuzz with lively discussions.’

I am particularly pleased that Ofsted recognised the significant work that has taken place to improve the curriculum, across all subjects during these past two years, which was described as ‘innovative’ and ‘well-structured’. The inspection team rightly identified how reading was a priority and that ‘pupils talk excitedly about the books that they are reading’. The quality of SEND provision was highlighted, with the inspectors noting that pupils with additional needs receive a good quality of education.

Ms Akram went on to add that, ‘The school is moving from strength to strength’ and that pupils ‘value diversity’ and ‘celebrate difference’. One pupil in Year 6 said, ‘‘We treat everyone as an equal. It does not matter to us what religion, sexuality, race, hair colour or type of glasses they wear’.

I know that the school being placed into special measures, with an Inadequate judgement in March 2020, was incredibly difficult for the entire school community. This report reflects the hard work, dedication and commitment of all the staff to improve standards and outcomes for all of our pupils.

Please take the time to read the inspection report, as it represents a school that is not only Good, but one that is determined to be the very best.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of the school.

With my very best wishes,

Ryan Laker
