  • Head of School Update - Friday 20th May 2022

    Fri 20 May 2022

Welcome to this week’s ‘Weekly Update’.

It’s been a very busy week at Oakwood, and that’s just the way we like it! Children in Year 1 had a fantastic trip to Bodiam Castle on Thursday. Despite a wet start, the children had an incredible day out, were amazed by the magnificent castle, its drawbridge and moat, and even got to try on some chain-mail and armor. Our Facebook page has some pictures of their day out.

Children in Year 5 had their first swimming session today. They had a great time in the pool. Also this week, they have been making their final biscuit products and ‘evaluating’ them, which seemed to include a significant amount of testing and tasting. There were some unique designs and ingredients, and the children really valued their designs being made in to final products.

Some pictures from across the week feature at the bottom of this week’s update, in our Bulletin and on the school’s Facebook page.

Our Curriculum Events for Term 5 are taking place across the whole of next week. Full details of all of the events, their dates, time and a description, are listed on this week’s Bulletin. We hope you can join us and we look forward to welcoming you in to school.

We will be celebrating the Platinum Jubilee with a party of our own on Friday 27th May. We will be providing a fish-and-chip lunch for pupils, should they wish to choose one, with games and activities to follow. Fingers crossed for good weather, so we can hold our party on the field.

We have lots to look forward to in Term 6, including our ‘Aspirations Week’, starting Monday 27th June. This is a chance to showcase to our pupils the fantastic opportunities, careers and professions that they can aspire to. We are inviting any parents who would love to talk to the children about their job, and answer some questions, in to school during this week. We have posted a link on this week’s Bulletin, for parents to show an interest in joining us.

In this week’s Celebration Assembly we awarded our certificates to our Writing and Maths ‘Stars’ and our ‘Stars of the Week’. The full list of this week’s ‘Stars of the Week’ can be found on this week’s Bulletin:

Well done to all of our certificate winners this week and to Logan in Year 3, who had the lucky number drawn in this week’s Attendance Raffle.

We also inducted our latest Accelerated Reader Word Millionaires! Congratulations to the following pupils:

    Lola-Mai (Year 4) – 1,000,000 words
    Tianna-Mai (Year 5) – 1,000,000 words
    Aiden (Year 5) – 2,000,000 words
    Anny (Year 6) – 2,000,000 words
    Emilia (Year 6) – 3,000,000 words

The children received their certificate and Amazon voucher in today’s Celebration Assembly. Their certificates will join the ‘Hall of Fame’ in the library.

Next week, our Year 6 pupils are off to the Smugglers Caves in Hastings. We will share some pictures from their day out next week. As it is the end of term, we will also be celebrating our ‘Stars of the Term’ and finding out who will be looking after the trophy!

Have a great weekend and I’ll look forward to seeing all of the pupils on Monday!

  • Deputy Headteacher's Update – Friday 13th May 2022

    Fri 13 May 2022

    Welcome to this week’s update!

Our Year 6 pupils have been fantastic this week while completing their KS2 SATs. They have all shown outstanding focus and determination across the week. They have done themselves and the school proud! I know that they also enjoyed the SATs breakfast that was attended by many of our Year 6s and today there was a special musical acoustic session led by Mr Spiers, while the children enjoyed their bacon rolls!

We have had some new feathery joiners to our school this week in our Foundation Village. Nugget and Snowball, two chicks, have joined Reception and the children have loved looking after them. We have more to come too, as in the Nursery there are many more eggs incubating and waiting to hatch!

Year 4 had their last swimming sessions today and the progress and confidence of the children in the water has really grown! I know that our Year 5 children are looking forward to their session starting next week!

Well done to all of this week's certificate winners from today’s celebration assembly. Our full list of this week's 'Stars of the Week' can be found on the weekly bulletin. There has been lots of amazing learning this week and therefore, unsurprisingly, there are brilliant reasons why the children have received the ‘Star of the Week Award!’ Well done to Year 3 Ashe Class and Year 5 Pankhurst Class, who are continuing to lead the way in Attendance Challenge; however, other classes are starting to catch up! Finally, congratulations to Sienna in Year 2, who had the lucky number in the 100% Attendance Raffle.

Please take time to look at our weekly bulletin and pictures from across the week below.

Have a fantastic weekend and let us hope the sun keeps shining.

    Deputy Headteacher

  • Head of School Update - Friday 6th May 2022

    Fri 06 May 2022

Welcome to this week's Weekly Update!

Our pupils in Year 1 have been protecting their castle from the siege. Their learning journey for this term is, 'Who is the King of the castle?' and have been learning about how castles were protected from invaders. They certainly got in to role perfectly. They are very much looking forward to their visit to Bodiam Castle, later this term.

We are really looking forward to our Platinum Jubilee party. This is taking place on Friday 27th May (last day of term). We will be hosting a 'fish and chip' picnic on the field - fingers crossed for good weather. Pupils can bring their own packed lunch to school should they wish to. All pupils are invited to dress up in something white, red or blue (or all three) for the day, or as our very own Queen Elizabeth II, should they wish to.

Well done to all of this week's certificate winners. Our full list of this week's 'Stars of the Week' can now be found on the weekly bulletin. As always, some fantastic reasons for our Stars this week. Well done to Y3 Ashe Class and Y5 Pankhurst Class, who are leading the way in this term's Attendance Challenge, and to Oscar in Year 2, who had the lucky number in the 100% Attendance Raffle.

Please check out this week's Bulletin, which includes our weekly report from The Hive. Some new dates and key events have been added, and we will continue to update these.

Finally, our fantastic Year 6 pupils will be taking their end of key stage assessments across four days next week. We are all very proud of them!

    Have a great weekend.
