  • Headteacher Update - Friday 24th June 2022

    Fri 24 Jun 2022

Welcome to this week's Weekly Update!

Our Year 6 pupils have had a fantastic residential trip at PGL Marchant's Hill this week, and arrived home, safe, well (if a little tired) earlier this afternoon. Activities included Giant Swing, trapeze, abseiling, Jacob's Ladder and obstacle course, plus and evening disco, too. A great time had by all. We will look forward to sharing some photographs next week.

We continue to work hard in all of our lessons. Our Year 5 pupils have been working hard on the map reading skills and have been knowledgeable and inquisitive 'Geographers' this week. In our featured photos, Year 5 pupils have the OS maps out, developing their map reading skills and identifying the symbols.

In our Hive groups, children have been developing their gardening skills and made some tasty bread recipes too. Our lovely Hive update from Mrs Snelgrove and Mrs Mathews can be found on this week's Bulletin.

Well done to all of this week's certificate winners. Our 'Stars of the Week' are:

Ayaan in Reception; Kachi in Y1; Daisy and Wynter in Y2; Angie and Chloe F. in Y3; Joey and Christopher in Y4; Denys and Iola in Y5; and Marlee and Harvey K. in Year 6.

Well done to Evie in Year 1 who won this week's Attendance Raffle.

We have lots to look forward to...Year 5 have their trip to Cuckmere Haven on Monday, and Monday also represents the start of Aspirations Week in school. Please read this week's Bulletin for more information.

    Have a great weekend!

  • Headteacher Update - Friday 17th June 2022

    Thu 16 Jun 2022

Welcome to this week's Weekly Update!

It's been Arts Week at Oakwood this week and we have had fun with music and sculpture, drawing and painting. This year's theme is 'The Power of Nature' and our projects in school have been based around this theme. The Sussex Music School teachers have ran musical workshops in school, creating soundtracks for our artwork. On Thursday morning we held our 'Classroom Galleries', where we visited each others' classes to talk about and share our final nature pieces. We've really enjoyed the week! Thank you to Miss Elms who has organised this year's project. Enjoy looking at our photos!

In assembly today, we awarded our latest 'Stars of the Week'. This week's winners are Bonnie in Reception; Isla in Year 1; Adam and Ivy-May in Year 2; Jett and Asia in Year 3; Bethany and Tililah in Year 4; Lucie-May and Heidi in Year 5; and Willow and Danny in Year 6.

Well done to this week's winners.

We also enrolled our latest Word Millionaires. Numbers 12 and 13 are Blake D. in Year 4 and Louis H. in Year 5, who have both read an incredible 1,000,000 words this school year. Their certificates will have pride of place in our 'Hall of Fame' in the school library.

YR Stephenson Class and Y4 Thunberg lead the way in the Term 6 Attendance Challenge with 10 points each.

Our Year 6 pupils are looking forward to their residential visit to PGL Marchant's Hill, from Wednesday and Friday next week. There are some fantastic activities planned and I am sure they will have an amazing time. We'll update you with how they are getting on. On Tuesday, Year 4 are heading to Michelham Priory - this is sure to be a great school trip!

We are looking forward to our Aspirations Week, from Monday 27th June. This is a chance for all of our pupils to find out about the incredible work that people in our community do. If you would like to come in to school to talk about your career, job, profession to our pupils, we would love to hear from you. Please contact the School Office.

Just a reminder that Friday 17th June is an INSET day and the school is closed to pupils. I will look forward to seeing all of the pupils when we return to school on Monday 20th June.

    Have a great weekend!

  • Headteacher Update - Friday 10th June 2022

    Fri 10 Jun 2022

Welcome to Term 6 to all of our pupils and their parents! I hope you all had a fantastic half-term break. All of the staff are really looking forward to the term ahead - the last for this school year!

Our children have enjoyed this first week back at school and finding out about their new learning journeys for the term. This term, the subject in focus is Geography. We're looking forward to lots of field-work, map-reading skills and some off-site visits too, for some of our year groups.

In Reception, our pupils were visited by Ali the bus-driver, from Stagecoach in Eastbourne. This term, the children are learning about 'transport' and how things move. Ali brought his bus on to the school grounds and the children asked questions about the bus and had a look around, before Ali took them on a ride around town. They had a brilliant day.

We have had some fantastic 'Hive' groups this week, and the children have joined learning with their friends, and some children they know less well, too. Sensory Circuits have started in the morning, and the children who are attending are benefitting from the trampoline activities, rolls and balances, and having lots of fun too.

Well done to all of our certificate winners this week. Our 'Stars of the Week' are: Archie in Reception; Seth in Year 1; Frankie and Georgia-Mae in Year 2; Jayson and Annie-Rose in Year 3; AJ and Ollie H. in Year 4; Louis and Aiden in Year 5; Esther and Santiago in Year 6.

Congratulations to Year 3 Ashe Class and Year 5 Pankhurst Class who won the Term 5 Attendance Challenge. The leaderboard now resets for Term 6! Well-done to Harryson in Year 4, who won this week's Attendance Raffle.

We have lots of events taking place across the next few weeks, including our Aspiration Week and Sports Day. These will be listed on the Bulletin, weekly, and we will update them here, too. We are all really excited about Art Week at Oakwood next week!

    Have a great weekend!
